2.  C.T. SMITH COMPOSITION CONTEST: Tax deductible donations to help finance this can be sent to Tom Poshak or may be paid online.  Go to the Lambda website and go to payonline Option #5.

In a previous email to the chapter we announced that Key West Overture by Chandler Comer is the winning composition for the 2019 C.T. Smith Composition Contest.  This is a grade 4/4+ piece that is about 9 minutes long.  Chandler has given permission to allow members of the Lambda Chapter the opportunity to perform this piece during this school year.

If you may be interested in learning more about the piece, contact Russ

Chandler lives in Centreville, Virginia, is 22 years old and has several compositions that are already published. One published work was composed at the age of 13.

Chandler will be at the luncheon in January to receive his $5,000 prize award.  Joining him will be his parent’s (he is too young to rent a car!) and his grandfather who is named on the dedication.

He has granted permission to perform this piece to any member of the chapter during the 18-19 school year.

Along with the $5,000 cash prize, the expenses to bring just Chandler here from Virginia and other contest expenses will be $700.  Tax deductible donations to help finance this and the contest can be sent to Tom Poshak or may be paid online.  Go to the Lambda website and go to “payonline” Option #5.

7 entries were reviewed by the auditioning committee.  The listening committee included: Jared Spears, Gary Brandes, Bob Altman, Joe Pappas and Bob Hansen.  The committee was impressed with the scope of this piece, the challenges it presents and the creative use of instrumentation.

Russ Coleman has decided to retire from the position as chair of the composition contest.  We have asked Joe Pappas to take over the leadership of this position and he has agreed to do that leaving us in very capable hands.

We owe a huge thank you to Russ for his leadership in this position.  We have gained a national reputation with this contest, every winning piece has been published and the $5,000 award is on par with other national contests.  Russ, we all thank you very much for your work on this project.

3.  LUNCH FEE: Please note that the cost for lunch has been increased $1 to $26.00.  Lambda or National dues have not changed.  Tom Poshak (Michigan Alum) apologizes for any inconvenience they may cause.

If you prefer NOT to pay, vote, or update contact info online - you can click on the link below and download the necessary information.
